Do you have hair cause damage to the curling iron?

Breakage leaves you with frizzy hair and broken flyaway pieces that sabotage your attempts at styling. Curling irons are one cause of hair breakage, but not the only one! You can safely curl and enjoy healthy, strong hair, proving that sometimes a girl can have it all!Curling irons can lead to hair breakage, especially if used repeatedly and on high heat. In general, if you see smoke coming off that iron, turn it down. Same goes for flat irons. Heat dries hair, and unless you give enough restorative moisture back to your locks, they will snap off. If you use a curling iron weekly, you probably won't notice much damage. If it's more like daily, your locks are in trouble.

Just like the name suggests, hair breakage is when your hair has put up with so much abuse that it literally starts to break off. Does that sound scary? Good, because it's supposed to. Hair breakage is serious, honey. It means you've been a bad girl and have not been giving your locks the TLC they deserve. If this were "A Christmas Carol," hair breakage would be the third ghost pointing to your hair's grave. It's time to take that sign seriously.

Plenty of bad behaviors can lead to broken locks. Too frequent dyeing or chemically relaxing your locks are major stressors, but even excess blow drying can harm hair. If you get hair extensions or braid your locks, the weight of hair pulling on your scalp can tear out hair. Once your hair gets dry and brittle, it's much more prone to break when handling, styling or sleeping.

If your hair is nearly departed thanks to severe breakage the only true cure is time and regular trims. In the meantime, get a hair reconstructor or protein pack and use this type of deep-conditioning treatment to help fill in some of the broken bits. These treatments will literally bond with your hair and help to seal split ends and fill in nicks in your hair's cuticle, making your hair look and feel smoother and help cut down on tangling.

Go under the hood. If you usually blow-dry your hair and style it with a curling iron, you’re more likely to battle breakage. These heat-styling tools get up close and personal with your tender tresses, which may already be weakened through not using proper conditioners or applying chemical relaxers or hair dyes. Ban those tools and go retro: Curl your hair in metal or plastic rollers never the sponge variety -- and sit back and relax under a hood dryer until your hair dries. The hood dryer is suitable for any type of African-American hair and your best bet if you want a style that lasts.
